In the world of dating, one of the most controversial topics is the PUA opener.
But before we dive into this topic, let’s look a little more into what a PUA opener is.
For the guys who have already read the book The Game by Neil Strauss, then you would most likely to have come across the term PUA. There are a lot of terms used in this book and Strauss used them to describe different aspects of a community he was very much involved in. In simple terms PUA stands for Pick Up Artist (PUA).
So what’s a PUA Opener?
Neil Strauss describes the words and terms utilized to initiate conversations as openers. Guys who want to study or are studying the seduction game refer to whatever you say FIRST in order to get the attention of women as PUA openers.
Hold up.
How are PUA openers different from PICKUP LINES?
Let’s face it, everytime we here the term “pickup line” we shudder.
The reason for this is we immediately think of a cheesy line used by guy that usually comes off as a joke and is not designed to actually get you anywhere. So how’s a pickupline different to a PUA opener?
Well a PUA opener is DESIGNED to get you to be able to talk to a girl properly. Unlike pickup lines that are not useful at all, except for sounding retarded or funny, a PUA Opener on the other hand is not purposely created in order to not only facilitate further interactions with you and the girl, but helps you and sets you up to get her contact details later.
That is the major difference.
A PUA opener works by getting the attention, trust and rapport of girls, whereas a pickup line is lame and only serves to break the ice.
Here’s an example of a pickup line:
“Wow, God must have spent more time when making you”
As you can see, this does NOTHING for you to further interact with the girl. I mean what is she going to say? You’re pretty much telling her you want to talk to her because you think she’s hot – that’s it.
Here’s an example of a PUA Opener:
“I had to come here and ask you this, I need a female opinion on this topic. I have to go really quick, but one of my friends has a secret admirer, and she keeps texting and sending scary emails. He THINKS he knows who she is, but he’s afraid to confront her, just in case she’s the wrong person”.
As you can see this opening not only allows you to talk about her thoughts and opinions when it comes to relationships and dating, it’s actually something that would get her interested in the conversation. You can also easily get her contact details by saying “oh give me your Facebook/number so I can let you know how he goes – so I can either thank you for your great advice or blame you for it”.
So the next question that arises when it comes to PUA openers is this.
Should you use a “canned” opener or go for a “spontaneous” opener?
There are a lot of new PUA students that are appalled by the idea of utilizing a canned opener.
They think and believe that it if they use it will not sound genuine – and they will think it will cause them to fail.
But is that REALLY the case?
Have you ever thought about the other side of the equation?
Some people argue that using a canned opener that is properly rehearsed can come off as more original than the usual things people say spontaneously.
This shouldn’t surprise you.
Just think about it as if you were writing an essay or a paper for school. What would your mark be if you spent a lot of time writing and editing it?
You will be able to come up with a MUCH MORE polished paper that way as compared to just writing down thoughts that come to your mind spontaneously – in other words trying to pull things out of your ass.
One more thing you should remember is, everything has be done already. EVERYTHING. So whatever line that you came up with probably has been done, tested and abused already by other guys out there. So instead of striving to be “unique” and “spontaneous” you should care about something more important.
Does it get you results?
I personally believe that you cannot be 100% spontaneous all the time, and after a while you’ll end up using the same lines and routines. That’s not bad, that’s just human nature. People are creatures of habit and we like to do what we’re used to doing. So if you have an opener that worked for you many times before, why change it for the sake of changing it?
Remember just because something is DIFFERENT or NEW doesn’t mean it’s BETTER.
What you should focus on is whether or not it gets you to your objective fast and effectively.
If it does, then stick to what works.
If it doesn’t, then change it till it works, then stick to that!
